A simple weekly family planning routine
Choose a familiar time each week and gather the dates you already know. A useful plan leaves room for interruptions; it does not fill every hour.
Start with the fixed points
Write down school events, appointments, shifts and collections first. Include who is responsible and anything that needs packing. A note such as “Tuesday: swimming, Dad collects, bag by the door” is easier to act on than “swimming”.
Choose a few reliable meals
Check the fridge, freezer and cupboard before making a shopping list. Pick meals around the busy days: a familiar quick dinner on the late-club evening and a little more preparation when there is time. Keep one flexible use-it-up meal.
Give each shared job an owner
Instead of “sort school form”, write a person and a day beside it. Keep the list short enough to discuss together. Ask what each person can realistically take on and leave non-essential jobs off the first version.
Add a backup
Choose a meal for a disrupted evening and agree who to contact if collection plans change. Keep personal contact details in a suitable private place. A flexible plan makes changing direction easier.
Finish with a five-minute review
At the next check-in, notice one thing that helped and one thing to simplify. If you only used the weekly overview, print that page again. Add the responsibility tracker or school notes only when they would help.
